Story Explorers - 2012 Summer Literacy Program
With a strong commitment to education, Rotary Storyland begins an eight-week program for children ages Pre-school through third grade on June 30th at Rotary Storyland. “Story Explorers” will happen each Saturday for the next eight weeks from 9:30am-11:00am.
Each week will begin with a performance in the theatre at Storyland, which could include interactive storytelling, live music, or theatre. After the performance, children and families will be encouraged to work on an activity together that builds skills in the areas of the alphabet, rhyming and reading comprehension. At the end of each week children and families will be given suggested ways to continue to work on the skills learned at home.
“There are two specific outcomes we are seeking through Storyland Explorers. First, we hope to show young children the joy in learning. Secondly, and perhaps more importantly however, we are working to encourage parents or guardians to play an active role in their child’s education,” stated Barry Falke President/CEO of Rotary Storyland & Playland.
Each child who participates will receive a certificate and special awards will be given to children who are able to attend each week of the summer program.
Regular Storyland admission is $3.50 for children and $5.00 for adults. The weekly Story Explorers program is included with guests paid admission. Each child and family member who participates in “Story Explorers” each week will also receive a free voucher to ride the train that day as well.
